In honor of Valentine’s Day… a little teaser from Malcolm and Summer — Summer of Irreverence-The Rock Star

Summer of Irreverence - The Rock Star—Book Review“Summer, baby…”

“Yes…?” Her eyes were closed, and she arched off the bed, her chest pressing against his. She leaned back, opening her eyes. She smiled, and Malcolm put his hand to his heart, certain he had never seen a more beautiful creature, ever in his life.

“Baby, I—” He wanted to. Damn. He wanted to more than anything. But how unfair would that be? Being with him only led to disaster…

“Malcolm…” She dragged her nails down his back, pulling him closer. “I know. I do, too.”

He covered her mouth with his.

Straight-laced, veterinary surgeon, Summer Wynters is ready to break the rules. And who better to break them with than the most irreverent of all men, mega rock star Malcolm Angel? With one last summer free from work obligations, Summer moves to New York City, and at the coaxing of her friend, pretends to be a model so she can spend one wild night with Malcolm.

Rock star, Malcolm Angel, tortured by a dark past, may be the poet laureate of romance, but he, like science-minded Summer, has never believed in romantic love. How could he? With his history, he doesn’t deserve to be loved.

When Summer’s honesty, kindness, and exuberance for life changes his perspective, the two discover they are in deeper than either dreamed possible. But when Malcolm discovers Summer’s been perpetuating a lie, will he forgive her? Even if forgiveness is possible, can a man immune to love teach someone else to believe in it?

Tips for Holiday Happiness!

Tips for Holiday Happiness with Author Nicci Carrera!

Today on Nitty Gritty Romance, we have the wonderful Nicci Carrera sharing some tips for holiday happiness! PLUS! She shares a blurb from:

From Nicci:

Tips for Holiday Happiness

Welcome to the holiday season of 2016! First, I wish you a safe, healthy, and happy season. Next, I want to share with you the little things that make me happy this time of year and that might make you happy as well.

  • After dinner, take a hot shower, dry off with a favorite towel (Charisma from Costco) and put on a thick warm robe  then lie on the couch wrapped in a comforter and read on my Kindle or Nook or sometimes even a paperback. (If you live in the southern hemisphere, make that a cool shower and skip the comforter.)

  • Meet a friend for a little shopping followed by a coffee. (Southern hemisphere: make it an iced tea!)

  • On a sunny day, find a window that has sun streaming through it and sit, stand or lie down there in the sun for a little while. (If it’s hot where you are, substitute a shady spot.)

  • Slipping into my favorite sheets (from Jennifer Adams) an hour early to read.

I grew up in a small town and my parents worked hard to make Christmas special. We had lots of snow, and my dad hung up the Christmas decorations along the windows that lined our long hallway. They had a big tree decorated with lights and ornaments. The family gathered together and opened gifts, but the memories that last aren’t the gifts, all of which I have forgotten, but of being together with my parents, sister and brothers.

Both of my parents are gone now, but they live on in  my heart and sometimes in my books. The second book in my Lobster Cove series is about Cara Cruz and her childhood and high-school sweetheart Jason Ward. Jason, an injured major-league baseball pitcher is home in this small Maine town taking care of his mom, who is disabled. His mom is also Cara’s best friend, so even though the two have some complicated history, they are thrown together during her summer vacation.

The book is a tribute to my mother who suffered from memory loss and confusion in her later years. While those were challenging years and in many ways sad, they were also a gift as I experienced getting to take care of her with unconditional love and also because I was amazed by how capable, funny and motherly she continued to be. At this time of year, I remember both my parents and the efforts they made to create a winter wonderland at Christmas for their three children.

In addition to this women’s fiction element, Third Strike’s the Charm, also has a second-chance romance with a very sexy and quiet-type male and a spicy smart woman.

thirdstrikesthecharm_w10429_300Super student Cara Cruz made it all the way through her prestigious MBA program only to choke on the last final. Ordered by her advisor to take the summer off and clear her head, she’s home in Lobster Cove for some fun before retaking the exam. If she fails a second time, she will lose her dream job offer in Chicago. Meanwhile her best friend happens to be her ex-boyfriend’s mom, which means close contact with the man who broke her heart. Twice. This time she’ll protect her heart no matter the cost.

Ex-major-league baseball pitcher Jason Ward blew his money, his elbow, and his love life. Now at home taking care of his mom and working on a new life plan, he wants Cara back, but he already struck out, didn’t he? Maybe not, and now his mission is to win her back without telling her the truth about why he really came home.

Winning at love will be the only play that counts.

Oh my goodness! An ex-major-league baseball pitcher and second-chance love…? Treat yourself for the holidays! Where to buy…?

Loving What You Do…

This week on Nitty Gritty Romance, we’re talking about loving what you do…

We keep inspirational posts by our door. Today’s read:

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” -Albert Schweitzer

We’ve all heard these words of advice, and they make sense. But then I started thinking about the interpretation of these words. How many of us concentrate on WHO we want to be when we do something, and not WHAT we are doing?

For example, recently, I met a woman who told me I was so lucky to be a writercopy-of-happiness-is-the-key-to-success (agreed), and that she would love to be a writer. When I suggested she follow her dream, she elaborated. “I’d love to spend all day wearing sweats, sitting in Starbucks drinking coffee, having in-depth conversations about my characters. I’d love to be that person.” When I asked her about the writing part, she shrugged. So, she didn’t want to be a writer as much as she wanted to lead a writer’s life—or what she imagined a writer’s life is like. (And many writers would agree, it’s not so glamorous!) What that woman was after was a “feeling” of success—something many of us strive for, all the time.

Dale Carnegie

So I started thinking. How many things do we go after in our lives, because we want to “be” the finished product? We like the look/ease/grace of someone else who’s doing it? Companies bank on this. If they show a confident, attractive woman jogging—we’re going to buy the clothes and take up jogging. And we often do. Thing is, we may not even like jogging. We just want that finished product. And to me, that’s not loving what you do, that’s loving what you want to be.

So here’s my challenge to us. Let’s all figure out what we really love to do.

Let’s try something new this week or this month. Something we’ve always wanted to try, and let’s build on it and cultivate it so we can find those things we actually love doing. Maybe it will lead to new career successes. Maybe it won’t. Or maybe, just maybe, it’ll make us happy.

Wishing you a lifetime of discovery and happiness.

Vintage NYC…

Nitty Gritty Romance

This week on Nitty Gritty Romance, I’m writing about something to love…

Vintage NYC…

I heart NY

The new series I’m writing, The New York Artists Series, makes me a bit nostalgic toward the NYC I used to know. The NYC many of us knew.

trash and vaudeville 2

A time when NYC itself was as much of a work of art as was the work of the thousands of artists living there.

It was a time when the city was gritty, and walking down the street it felt as if every crack in a sidewalk was made by a new, creative idea bursting through…dying to be set free.

It was a place filled with unscheduled subway musicians, Shakespeare popping up in parks and parking lots, and streets that were littered with impromptu street art. A time when we shopped at Trash and Vaudeville wearing Doc Martens, or rifled through cheap vintage stores while wearing the latest Viva Glam lipstick from M.A.C. RuPaul was modeling…and we thought there was nothing better. Ever. Anywhere. And we may have been right.

Although I love NYC of modern day, and the New York Artists Series is set in present day, all my leading men are artists, and because of it, I can’t help but immerse myself in the feeling of the gritty New York that once was. And truthfully, it’s not so much the time, as it is the soul of Vintage New York.

I hope you’ll come meet mega rock star, Malcolm Angel, in the first book of

The Perfect Tank Top

Nitty Gritty Romance

Today on Nitty Gritty Romance, I’m talking about something to LOVE –the perfect, inexpensive, tank top.

Any woman who loves Gritty Romance as much as I do, needs a whole host of tank tops in her wardrobe.black tank-top

Whether you’re walking the busy streets of SoHo in your favorite worn jeans and tank top, or dressing for a night out (add accessories and layer), or, if you’re like me and you live in a yoga studio—these are the tank tops for you!

They move with your body, don’t ride up, and take abuse…as in hot yoga and continual washes. The tank tops are long, so you can layer crop tops over them (I often layer two different colors of tank tops), and they can hide your too-low jeans. They’re cotton and spandex—and I have paid way more for tank tops not nearly as good.

Even if you don’t live in NYC, trust me, you need these in your wardrobe.

And think about it…how sexy is the love scene where the hero sees the heroine’s shape under her tank top? Makes you think of hot summer nights, snuggling together in busy coffee shops, and sitting shoulder to shoulder in the back seat of a cab…

So, where do you find these ultimate, all purpose, gotta have these for summer, tank tops?

Target! target

I have been buying them at Target for years.  They’re cheap and really, really good. I’m wearing one right now, as I’m blogging.

They come in lots of different colors and prints—but you’ve got to own a few in black.

And guess what? Right now, they’re on sale, 3 for $24. Normally, $9. So, for less than ten bucks, you can add something to your wardrobe that you’ll use all summer long… I’m adding the link—but trust me, these look way better in person—and on—then they do online.
