THIRD STRIKE’S THE CHARM!
Tips for Holiday Happiness
Welcome to the holiday season of 2016! First, I wish you a safe, healthy, and happy season. Next, I want to share with you the little things that make me happy this time of year and that might make you happy as well.
After dinner, take a hot shower, dry off with a favorite towel (Charisma from Costco) and put on a thick warm robe then lie on the couch wrapped in a comforter and read on my Kindle or Nook or sometimes even a paperback. (If you live in the southern hemisphere, make that a cool shower and skip the comforter.)
Meet a friend for a little shopping followed by a coffee. (Southern hemisphere: make it an iced tea!)
On a sunny day, find a window that has sun streaming through it and sit, stand or lie down there in the sun for a little while. (If it’s hot where you are, substitute a shady spot.)
Slipping into my favorite sheets (from Jennifer Adams) an hour early to read.
I grew up in a small town and my parents worked hard to make Christmas special. We had lots of snow, and my dad hung up the Christmas decorations along the windows that lined our long hallway. They had a big tree decorated with lights and ornaments. The family gathered together and opened gifts, but the memories that last aren’t the gifts, all of which I have forgotten, but of being together with my parents, sister and brothers.
Both of my parents are gone now, but they live on in my heart and sometimes in my books. The second book in my Lobster Cove series is about Cara Cruz and her childhood and high-school sweetheart Jason Ward. Jason, an injured major-league baseball pitcher is home in this small Maine town taking care of his mom, who is disabled. His mom is also Cara’s best friend, so even though the two have some complicated history, they are thrown together during her summer vacation.
The book is a tribute to my mother who suffered from memory loss and confusion in her later years. While those were challenging years and in many ways sad, they were also a gift as I experienced getting to take care of her with unconditional love and also because I was amazed by how capable, funny and motherly she continued to be. At this time of year, I remember both my parents and the efforts they made to create a winter wonderland at Christmas for their three children.
In addition to this women’s fiction element, Third Strike’s the Charm, also has a second-chance romance with a very sexy and quiet-type male and a spicy smart woman.
Super student Cara Cruz made it all the way through her prestigious MBA program only to choke on the last final. Ordered by her advisor to take the summer off and clear her head, she’s home in Lobster Cove for some fun before retaking the exam. If she fails a second time, she will lose her dream job offer in Chicago. Meanwhile her best friend happens to be her ex-boyfriend’s mom, which means close contact with the man who broke her heart. Twice. This time she’ll protect her heart no matter the cost.
Ex-major-league baseball pitcher Jason Ward blew his money, his elbow, and his love life. Now at home taking care of his mom and working on a new life plan, he wants Cara back, but he already struck out, didn’t he? Maybe not, and now his mission is to win her back without telling her the truth about why he really came home.
Winning at love will be the only play that counts.
Oh my goodness! An ex-major-league baseball pitcher and second-chance love…? Treat yourself for the holidays! Where to buy…?
